This is the English version of the "Data Centre Operations Guidebook (Japanese version 2.0)".
Since its establishment in 2018, the JDCC's Operation Guidebook WG has spent approximately two years preparing a manual on data centre operations, and published the first edition of the "JDCC Data Centre Operation Guidebook" in December 2020. In order to respond to changes in the environment surrounding data centres, the WG, with the cooperation of new WG members, made major revisions over the two-year period, and published the second edition of the "JDCC Data Centre Operations Guidebook" in June 2023. This PDF data is english version of the guidebook.
This guidebook aims to be a standard guide on data centre operations and has been comprehensively enhanced. It includes basic explanations of the various standards and laws and regulations that form the basis of operations, definitions of the services and the operational elements, human resource development and management, risk management, etc., as well as specific explanations required for actual operations, such as data centre facilities, specific operations of ICT systems and the maintenance of procedures, and emergency response methods.
In the second edition published in 2023, new sections and chapters have been added on labour-saving operations (unmanned reception, virtual tours, etc.), operational automation (management for advanced and complex operations, energy-saving management, etc.) and operation outsourcing, which are attracting attention as measures to address the global data centre operator shortage. Furthermore, a chapter on the closure and relocation of ageing data centres has also been added. We hope that it will be used as a must-have guide for all those involved in data centres, including users as well as actual data centre operators.
